Graduate students serving on the Conference Management Team join the staff and volunteers to assist in the implementation of the Annual Conference.

This is an Association-level contributing volunteer position, ideal for those interested in curating content for other members, reviewing materials to help make decisions, sharing expertise to build credibility, and welcoming participants at events.

Through this opportunity, members develop long-lasting relationships with peers, build professional connections through interactions with ACUI members, learn about the mission and operations of a higher education professional association, and develop skills in large event management, communication, problem solving, and customer service. 

Reporting to the ACUI educational program manager, team members will be responsible for:

  • Participating in staff training and meetings
  • Preparing registration materials and assisting with on-site registration
  • Assisting with the setup, staffing, and packing of the conference office
  • Performing checks of room, audio-visual, and equipment setups
  • Managing traffic flow at conference events and educational sessions
  • Serving as a resource to conference delegates
  • Assisting in the preparation of projects and tasks for conference onsite

ACUI will provide selected team members with: conference registration; hotel accommodations (quad occupancy with other students from the team); the opportunity to meet and work with the ACUI Central Office staff, ACUI leadership, and conference planning volunteers; and an experience that will be treasured personally and professionally.

Selected individuals are responsible for:

  • Arranging transportation to and from the conference hotel in Pittsburgh
  • Arriving by 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, and not departing until midday Thursday, March 12, 2026

At the time of application, individuals must be a degree-seeking master’s level graduate student in higher education, student affairs, or a related field who is not a full-time employee at the institution; involved in a college union/student activities department; and committed to fulfilling the duties of the position for the length of the term. Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of ACUI’s vision, core values, and core competencies, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. 

Conference Management Team members are expected to participate in several conference calls during months leading up to the conference—typically January, February, and March. All must be able to arrive on site at the conference hotel in the host city several days before the start of the conference and depart the day after.

Ongoing Bulletin Contributors write articles for publication that advance the educational needs of members. These volunteers have an opportunity to share their knowledge and advice, develop their communication writing skills, and increase their visibility in the profession.

Reporting to the Assistant Editor staff liaison, for a one-year rolling term as agreed upon by the contributor and ACUI, contributors are responsible for:

  • Contributing to the educational mission of the Association through at least four posts per year to The Bulletin, ACUI’s publication for educational insights and information sharing for professionals. 
  • Submitting drafts and working with the editor during the editorial process to optimize each article
  • Staying abreast of article due dates, the Bulletin team’s resources, and industry news to aid the conception of potential writing topics.
  • Ensuring that contributions are either original or properly attributed, and highlight a skill set(s) within one or more of ACUI’s 11 core competencies.

This is an Association-level contributing volunteer position, ideal for those interested in curating content for other members, reviewing materials to help make decisions, sharing expertise to build credibility, and welcoming participants at events.

Ongoing course faculty/content experts/webinar presenters support online learning programs that advance the educational needs of members. These volunteers have an opportunity to share their knowledge and advice, develop their verbal and interpersonal communication skills, and increase their visibility in the profession.

This is an Association-level contributing volunteer position, ideal for those interested in curating content for other members, reviewing materials to help make decisions, sharing expertise to build credibility, and welcoming participants at events.

Reporting to the assistant director for online learning and certification, for a six-month rolling term as agreed upon by the volunteer and ACUI, volunteers are responsible for:

  • Faculty: Contributing to the educational mission of the Association through facilitation of at least one ACUI online course, as needed by the Association.
  • Faculty: Completing faculty training, including online and synchronous segments.
  • Faculty: Nurturing students enrolled in the course(s) and providing support when needed.
  • Content Experts: Meeting with an instructional designer and other content experts to design and develop content for one or more online courses.
  • Content Experts: Developing lecture notes, presentation materials, and other course content, as needed.
  • Webinar Presenter: Sharing areas of expertise for topic areas on which the contributor is qualified to present.
  • Webinar Presenter: Attending at least one presenter prep meeting to cover logistics and technology for the session.
  • All: Staying abreast of due dates, paperwork, and ACUI guidelines and policies regarding online learning programs.

The Online Learning Team is responsible for creating a calendar of experiences to engage members through online technologies. Members assist in the discussions about program ideas and help develop direction and vision for online learning opportunities.  

Reporting to the Online Engagement Specialist staff liaison, team members are responsible for:

  • Assisting with the identification of program topics and knowledge-based experts and/or interested volunteers to present/facilitate programs, and developing competency-based learning outcomes and program assessment into online learning initiatives.
  • Collaborating with other members on a comprehensive calendar of online learning initiatives for the Association.
  • Assisting in developing a direction and vision for the online learning opportunities that is in line with the strategic direction of the Association.
  • Assessing the needs of the membership and make appropriate recommendations on how additional online technologies can be utilized to deliver educational content to members.
  • Attending up to two 90-minute meetings over the course of one month.
