We will navigate the current landscape of AI tools and explore how they can be ethically integrated into something more useful for your campus.
This basic discussion about AI will have participants leaving with practical skills and a customized toolkit to enhance your understanding of AI.

About the Presenter
Karen J. Shapiro, DrPH, MPH, MBA, is a senior academic and healthcare administrator with more than 30 years of experience at the intersection of public health, health professions education, and clinical service delivery. She currently serves as Vice Dean at the Rutgers School of Health Professions, which offers more than 35 degree-granting programs across 7 departments and contributes 400+ health professionals to the workforce annually.
Trained in public health, health policy, and finance, Dr. Shapiro brings a systems-level approach that integrates workforce development, fiscal sustainability, and equity-informed decision-making. Her leadership emphasizes participatory planning models that elevate frontline expertise, strengthen institutional trust, and translate strategy into lasting operational change.
Previously, she served as Chief Operating Officer of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, where she oversaw business and clinical operations providing more than 100,000 patient visits each year, leading workforce redesign, service expansion, and large-scale operational transformation.
Dr. Shapiro holds a DrPH from Rutgers University, an MPH from Columbia University, and an MBA from New York University. Her scholarship and national service focus on health professions education, workforce wellbeing, and strategic planning—grounded in the belief that strategy, designed as a collective and adaptive process, can function as a public health intervention in its own right.
