This institute will provide leaders with tools to navigate contentious campus situations, to encourage critical thinking and dialogue, and to embed civil engagement as standard practice.

- 2:30–3:30 p.m. – Session 9: What Now? Creating an Action Plan

Speakers
Dr. Salvador Mena
Dr. Salvador Mena serves as senior vice chancellor for the student experience. He leads a division of student affairs focused on health and wellness, student life and advocacy, campus engagement and belonging, and student services. As campus leaders, “We are able to make a difference in the lives of students who will, in turn, make the world a better place for us all.”
ANN Newman
As the associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students, Ann Newman oversees the Dean of Students Office, Office of Student Conduct, Office for Student Affairs Compliance and Title IX, and several other areas. She will explore the impact (and context) of the First Amendment on campuses and address the question, how do we balance politics and academics?
Lara Schwartz
American University founding director of the Project on Civil Discourse, Lara Schwartz specializes in campus speech, constitutional law, and politics. She will introduce the concept of “collaborative inquiry over debate” and “communicating to be understood” from her recent book, “Try to Love the Questions.“
Regina Donato
Regina Donato serves as associate director of community standards and conflict resolution at the University of Delaware, leading initiatives to refine student conduct processes, ensuring fairness and educational impact. She is a certified mediator and restorative practices trainer focused promoting a culture of growth and inclusivity on campus.
Vinny Jackson
Vinny Jackson has been at University of Delaware for 22 years and serves as the assistant director of community standards and conflict resolution. He will co-lead “Supporting Campus Communities through Restorative Practices.” His work on restorative conversations at University of Delaware will offer practical and actionable guidance for attendees.
