AI and Its Benefits Being Seen in Student Centers, Student Affairs

Practical uses of generative artificial intelligence in student centers and student affairs are being adopted to reduce administrative workload, improve the consistency and timeliness of student communications, and strengthen services through 24/7 self-service support systems. That said, it is being implemented while trying to preserve space for human judgment for student well-being, conduct, eligibility decisions, and other high-stakes areas.

Organizations are applying AI to improve responsiveness and consistency in high-volume workflows while reserving relationship-centered and high-stakes decision-making for staff. The broader societal conversation may often be clouded by reports of government documents showing police disabling AI oversight tools or the non-disclosure of AI-written police reports in plea deals, but campuses look to be taking a different path: one of transparency and “Human-in-the-Loop” ethics.
