Membership Experience Managers oversee the recruitment and selection of regional volunteers, as well as the evaluation of regional member needs.
Individuals in this role create meaningful experiences to help others advance professionally while developing their own skills in human resources and communication.
This is a regional leading volunteer position, ideal for those interested in determining and advancing strategic directions, governing over long-term goals, representing the association to other members, and setting the tone for member experiences.
This position reports to the regional director and is supported by the communications coordinators and the Volunteer Development Team. Membership experience managers serve for a two-year term and are responsible for the following:
Volunteer Management and Elections
- Develop and implement systems for the recruitment, appointment, evaluation, and recognition of regional volunteers, including creating short-term involvement opportunities.
- Oversee the Regional Leadership Team and Regional Conference Planning Team volunteer application and interview processes, including reviewing applications, interviewing candidates, and recommending a slate of qualified appointees.
- Manage the regional director election process (unless applying for the position) and serve as the primary regional contact for the ACUI Elections Committee, participating in conference calls as needed.
- Assist in onboarding newly appointed Regional Leadership Team members and conduct volunteer exit interviews.
Outreach
- Conduct outreach to member institutions, students, and professionals to identify opportunities for involvement in regional activities.
- Promote regional involvement opportunities via communications such as newsletters, the website, and email.
- Work closely with the Central Office to conduct outreach and recruitment efforts to non-member institutions.
Regional Support
- Act as a liaison between the regional director and communications coordinators by addressing questions, supporting execution of tasks, and facilitating ideas. Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members prior to their scheduled one-on-one with the regional director.
- Serve as the primary contact for the Volunteer Development Team and participate in related conference calls as requested.
Assessment and Training
- Collaborate with the Central Office to maintain and update records of regional volunteers and promote orientation and training opportunities.
- Develop and implement assessment and evaluation processes to support data-driven decision-making for regional programs and engagement activities.
- Work with the Central Office to conduct outreach and recruit non-member institutions.
General Responsibilities of Regional Leadership Team Members
- Participate in scheduled Regional Leadership Team meetings throughout the year, including monthly conference calls, a face-to-face meeting at the regional conference, and a second in-person meeting as determined by the team.
- Act as a resource for the region and campus organizations.
- Inspire student involvement in regional and ACUI events and opportunities.
- Develop and submit a proposal for an educational session at the regional conference.
- Support regional fundraising efforts for scholarships and corporate partnerships.
- Train and coordinate shadowing opportunities for incoming volunteers in all role-related processes and procedures.
Additional Notes
Direct expenses for conducting Association or regional business (e.g., meetings) are covered by the Association. However, travel expenses and registration fees for conferences and events are expected to be supported by the volunteer’s institution. Given current and potential future travel restrictions, members interested in this volunteer opportunity are encouraged to apply regardless of such limitations.

A screening committee made up of the volunteer team leader, the regional membership experience coordinator, and other related volunteers will review applications, interview candidates, and make recommendations for selections.

At the time of application, individuals must have: employment at a higher education institution; institutional or individual membership; a signed institutional support form; and a commitment to fulfilling the duties of the position for the length of the term. Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of ACUI’s vision, core values, and core competencies, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Regional leading volunteer positions require a commitment of two years, except for student positions which have a one-year term. Over the course of the term, volunteers should anticipate at least 4 hours of conference call and project work per month, in addition to attending in-person Regional Leadership Team meetings.
