Webinar: Position & Career Transitions – From Catalyst to Successful Outcomes

Position or career transitions often include significant personal or professional changes, new or expanded responsibilities, new team members or supervisors, changing work cultures, environments, and expectations. Transitions can include those intentionally or strategically planned or prepared for, or those that emerge unexpectedly.  

Join us for this webinar as we discuss transition options to explore, prepare amd plan for, navigate, and embrace, with an end goal leading to your own defined successful outcomes.  We will touch upon the following areas:  

  • Potential transition catalysts  
  • Types of transition opportunities 
  • Navigating and managing responses to transition  
  • Strategic actions toward successful outcomes, rewards, and benefits  
  • Revisiting the transition cycle 
About the Presenters
  • Cheryl Grew-Gillen serves as the director of the Memorial Union at the University of North Dakota, a role she has held since August 2015. Cheryl’s career in student affairs started as a student employee within a college union with serendipitous doors opening leading to an evolving 30+ year adventure with the added rewards and benefits of working daily with students. Cheryl has had the privilege of continuing her service by choice in college unions in a variety of roles with changing responsibilities, opportunities and transitions experienced across six different universities. 
  • Edna Zambrano-Martinez is the director of student unions and activities at the University of Texas–Rio Grande Valley. She has been an ACUI member since 2003 and served on the ACUI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program Team. Edna has 20 years of experience in student affairs ranging from new student orientations, housing, auxiliary services, campus programming, conference services, and student unions. Edna is proud to lead her union and activities teams to offer exceptional services and memorable events that make students feel supported and welcomed on their campus.

Learning Outcomes

As a result of attending this program, participants will:

  • Increase awareness of potential transition catalysts.  
  • Increase awareness of a range of potential transition opportunities for consideration.  
  • Have the opportunity to explore and reflect on different responses to transition that may result in positive outcomes, rewards, and benefits or impactful or negative outcomes or consequences.  
  • You will hear perspectives and takeaways from two presenters who have experienced a wide range of transitions across their careers, both planned and unexpected.
