Additional Membership Options

Individual membership is geared toward those who don’t have campus support but want to remain connected to ACUI. This includes retirees, faculty members, graduate students, and professionals. If your campus is a membership, you do not need an individual membership.

Retiree, Graduate Student, and Faculty Membership

Note: Students and faculty do not need a membership if their campus is a member; it is for those at a non-member campus. Retirees must have a paid membership; you cannot use your previous campus association for access to benefits. Please email [email protected] with any questions.

Individual Professional Membership

Note: This is not needed if your campus is a member; it is for those at a non-member campus.

Associate Membership

Companies can connect with ACUI through associate membership, enabling your team to connect with more than 5,000 professionals and students. Find out more about joining ACUI as an associate member.

Membership Definitions

Institutional membership is the primary method of obtaining membership with the Association. With institutional membership, campuses can provide the benefits available with the given membership tier to anyone affiliated with their campus. There are two restricted benefits with institutional membership. Company administrators can designate recipients up to the number allowed by the membership tier for the following benefits: Voting Member and Print Bulletin Recipient.

Associate membership allows companies to engage with the Association; all those affiliated with a company are eligible for membership benefits designated for associate members.

Retiree membership allows higher education professionals who are retired to continue to receive designated membership benefits at a discounted rate. Upon retirement, professionals can no longer be affiliated with an institution; retirees should retain an individual retiree membership. Retiree membership (and the associated retiree rate for events) is only for those who are retired. Those actively employed within higher education (even if previously retired) are not eligible for retiree membership or benefits.

Each year, the Board of Trustees confers honorary membership upon individuals who are retiring (or leaving the field) and have achieved the prescribed level of service to the profession and Association. Honorary membership provides a complimentary membership to recipients that provides access to retiree-level benefits plus one subscription to the printed Bulletin.

Honorary members are eligible to receive retiree pricing for events and other benefits while retired or employed outside higher education. Those actively employed within higher education (even if previously employed or working outside the field) are not eligible for retiree pricing for events. These individuals would need to register at the prevailing member (or nonmember) fee based on the campus’s institutional membership. Despite employment status, honorary members will continue to receive other retiree benefits.

Note that receipt of the Emeritus Award, also conferred by the board, is not a membership status. Upon retirement, these individuals should retain a retiree membership for continued engagement with the Association. Those who receive the award prior to retirement (whether employed within or outside higher education) are not eligible for retiree membership or retiree rates to conference.

Professionals who do not have institutional support for a membership may choose to join ACUI as a professional at a nonmember campus. Those at nonmember campuses have more limited benefits.

Graduate students who do not have institutional support for a membership may choose to join ACUI as a graduate student. If your campus is an ACUI member, you do not need to have a separate graduate student membership. Graduate student membership is only available to those who are not actively working in the profession (either full- or part-time).

Faculty who do not have institutional support for a membership may choose to join ACUI through a faculty membership. If your campus is an ACUI member, you do not need to have a separate faculty membership. Faculty membership is only available to those who are not actively working as a staff member in the profession (either full- or part-time).
