About the Presenters
Carole Dowell serves as the director of the University Student Commons at Virginia Commonwealth University. She has worked in the field of college unions for over 25 years, including positions in Associated Students and Student Unions in the California State University system. Carole was born and raised in France, where she obtained a business degree before moving to the United States. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a Master in Public Administration from California State University–Northridge. She has been actively involved with ACUI since 2000 and held several volunteer leadership positions at the regional and national level.
Dr. Megan Bell has over 25 years of experience leading teams and change in higher education and currently serves as the executive director of the University-Student Union at California State University–Los Angeles. She has worked in four different student unions in a variety of capacities and has been actively involved as a volunteer for ACUI. Megan led assessment and strategic planning for the Division Student Affairs at Cal State–Northridge. Prior to that she was the interim assistant vice chancellor of student affairs at the University of Colorado–Colorado Springs and has also worked at CU–Boulder, Whittier College and UC–Riverside. Megan earned a Ph.D. in higher education leadership from Colorado State University, an Ed.M. from Washington State University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She also has served as an assistant professor in the College of Education teaching courses in organizational leadership, diversity and inclusiveness, higher education administration, assessment, and educational policy and governance.
