ACUI Announces New Regional Leadership Structure
ACUI is announcing a restructuring of its Regional Leadership Teams designed to clearly define volunteer roles throughout the eight regions, to strengthen engagement and volunteer support, and to create a structured volunteer selection and onboarding process.
The restructuring is the result of work done by the Regional Engagement Task Force, created by Board of Trustees in 2022. After the task force report was delivered in July 2023, the board charged the regional directors to review the recommended structure and made further suggestions to enhance engagement and volunteer opportunities in the regions. That work became part of ACUI’s 2024–29 Strategic Plan, which called for a focus on reengaging and supporting members at the local level through revitalized and active regions. ACUI’s Board of Trustees formally adopted the new regional structure and new regional volunteer position descriptions in May 2025.
The goal of the restructuring, which takes effect in January 2026, is to provide clearer expectations for volunteers, offer more engagement opportunities, and provide a flexible organizational structure while still maintaining regional autonomy. The new structure allows for both core and optional volunteer positions and defines the role of each of those positions. For example, regions now have the flexibility to create the optional volunteer positions of outreach and volunteer coordinator, web and social media content curator, recognition coordinator, educational programs coordinator, student engagement coordinator, and student member.
Core positions are the regional director, membership experience manager, communications coordinator, conference chair, upcoming conference chair, conference planning team members, business manager, and community engagement programs manager.
A new structured onboarding process for Regional Leadership Team members was also designed which includes an initial onboarding and training, a role-specific transition and knowledge transfer, and a refined integration of regional and ACUI Central Office interaction that includes monthly Central Office liaison meetings, a new volunteer confirmation and welcome process, and a regional resources and technical tools access process.
For a complete look at the full descriptions of all regional core and optional volunteer roles, visit the Volunteer webpage. Applications for all Regional Leadership Team positions will be available starting September 11. Members can also find additional information about upcoming regional events like Regional Conferences, current regional volunteers, vacant regional volunteer positions, and more on their regional website.
