DESCRIPTION:What is it like to host World Cup teams and guests from around the world to multiple facilities? Join us for a conversation with J.D. Wood\, member of the 2026 North Texas FWC (FIFA World Cup) Organizing Committee to learn about his experience as the ream and venue services manager for the North Texas area. J.D. has a long history in sports and facilities management in Texas and is excited for a guided Q&A with ACUI about his experience preparing and executing a global sporting event. Wood is a sports management expert with over 15 years of experience managing facilities and events. After earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University\, he went on to work for some of the top organizations in the sports tourism industry\, including the City of College Station\, Dallas CVB\, National Senior Games\, and his alma mater Texas A&M University. He also served as the director of business development and events for the Dallas Sports Commission. Wood is now using all the industry knowledge that he has gained through his impressive career to help The Sports Facilities Companies improve communities all over the country as the regional vice president of strategic development as well as operating his own event management and consulting firm\, EventMode Strategies. In his role with The Sports Facilities Companies\, Wood is responsible for developing and executing business planning strategies that will allow SFC to identify and take advantage of opportunities for growth in new markets. Through his experience and guidance\, cities better understand the process for developing transformative sports\, recreation\, events\, and entertainment venues. Currently\, Vinny serves as the director for facilities & event operations with the University Student Centers. Vinny earned a master’s degree in higher education aAdministration from the University of Delaware. A committed volunteer with ACUI\, Vinny has held various leadership roles\, including serving as regional director in 2020 and most recently on the 2027 Conference Planning Team. Vinny has been a spouse\, a parent for over 17 years\, and a caregiver for an elderly family member. \n\n\n\nDr. Melinda Wallace has worked for the University of Alabama for the past 14 years in positions increasing in responsibility. She recently joined the University’s Agility Continuous Improvement Team to help lead university-wide efforts that foster innovation\, streamline operations\, and build a culture of continuous improvement. Prior to this\, she was executive director for process review and financial compliance\, serving as internal consultant to shared administrative services departments. In this collaborative role\, she evaluated project budgets and reports\, built internal and external relationships\, and served as compliance subject matter expert. In addition to higher education\, her business management experience includes healthcare operations\, state government\, pharmaceutical and medical device research. Melinda holds an undergraduate degree in commerce and business administration\, a MBA\, and a Doctor of Education in higher education administration. She loves engaging with students as an adjunct instructor of management. She also mentors first-generation college students and volunteers on several nonprofit boards and committees throughout the community. She is active in her church and enjoys spending time with her husband\, Karl\, and their two children\, Dylan and Abigail. \n\n\n\nJackie Grinvalds (she/her) has worked at Emory University for the past seven years\, starting as the associate director of Student Center operations and events and shifting into the director role for the department in 2022. Previously\, Jackie worked at Northeastern Illinois University and Northwestern University in student center roles. Jackie earned a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University and her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. After serving in several ACUI volunteer roles regionally and most recently on the Education Council\, Jackie is currently looking out for her next way to give back to the Association. Harland Dean at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School from 2014 to 2020. \n\n\n\nAn award-winning educator\, accomplished consultant\, and innovative researcher\, she has paved the way for women in leadership both in education and corporate America. Dean James has been instrumental in developing groundbreaking executive education programs\, including the Women in Leadership program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School. \n\n\n\nDean James serves on the boards of Morgan Stanley\, The Economic Club of New York\, and Pomona College. She is a sought-after thought leader whose expertise has been quoted by The Wall Street Journal\, MSNBC\, Bloomberg\, The Washington Post\, and numerous other media outlets. Her latest book is The Prepared Leader: Emerge from Any Crisis More Resilient Than Before (Wharton School Press) which she co-authored with Lynn Perry Wooten\, President of Simmons University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNicole Long\n\n\nNicole Long joined Agnes Scott in April 2023 as the vice president for finance and administration. In this role\, she oversees the college’s finance\, accounting\, facilities\, dining operation\, institutional technology\, and public safety functions. Her career spans 25 years in finance with Fortune 500 companies\, including WestRock\, The Coca-Cola Company\, AT&T\, and General Motors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA in finance from Florida A&M University and is a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. member. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChicora Martin\n\n\nChicora Martin assumed the position of vice president for student affairs and dean of students on November 1\, 2022. Previously\, Chicora served as vice president of student life and dean of students at Mills College in Oakland\, California.
