Then\, engage in a roundtable discussion with the presenters and other attendees about the challenges and joys of family and career. \n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters\n\n\n\n\nVinny Jackson has worked at the University of Delaware\, serving in roles such as conference events technician\, facility and event operations manager in the University Student Centers\, and as assistant director with community standards & conflict resolution. Currently\, Vinny serves as the director for facilities & event operations with the University Student Centers. Vinny earned a master’s degree in higher education aAdministration from the University of Delaware. A committed volunteer with ACUI\, Vinny has held various leadership roles\, including serving as regional director in 2020 and most recently on the 2027 Conference Planning Team. Vinny has been a spouse\, a parent for over 17 years\, and a caregiver for an elderly family member. \n\n\n\nDr. Melinda Wallace has worked for the University of Alabama for the past 14 years in positions increasing in responsibility. She recently joined the University’s Agility Continuous Improvement Team to help lead university-wide efforts that foster innovation\, streamline operations\, and build a culture of continuous improvement. Prior to this\, she was executive director for process review and financial compliance\, serving as internal consultant to shared administrative services departments. In this collaborative role\, she evaluated project budgets and reports\, built internal and external relationships\, and served as compliance subject matter expert. In addition to higher education\, her business management experience includes healthcare operations\, state government\, pharmaceutical and medical device research. Melinda holds an undergraduate degree in commerce and business administration\, a MBA\, and a Doctor of Education in higher education administration. She loves engaging with students as an adjunct instructor of management. She also mentors first-generation college students and volunteers on several nonprofit boards and committees throughout the community. She is active in her church and enjoys spending time with her husband\, Karl\, and their two children\, Dylan and Abigail. \n\n\n\nJackie Grinvalds (she/her) has worked at Emory University for the past seven years\, starting as the associate director of Student Center operations and events and shifting into the director role for the department in 2022. Previously\, Jackie worked at Northeastern Illinois University and Northwestern University in student center roles. Jackie earned a master’s degree in higher education and student affairs from Indiana University and her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University. After serving in several ACUI volunteer roles regionally and most recently on the Education Council\, Jackie is currently looking out for her next way to give back to the Association. In this State of the College Union webinar\, two “assessment nerds” give examples of how uncovering underutilized sources in your everyday practice can provide new opportunities to support and build core programs. When union professionals intentionally evaluate both programs and operations\, they create stronger student unions and better experiences for serving everyone.  \n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters\n\n\n\n\nMegan Bell currently serves as the executive director of the University-Student Union at California State University–Los Angeles. Prior to that role\, she led assessment and strategic initiatives for the Division of Student Affairs at the California State University– Northridge. Before moving back to LA\, she spent 12 years working at the University of Colorado–Colorado Springs. While there\, Bell served as the interim assistant vice- chancellor of student affairs\, executive director of community learning and assessment\, and director of the University Center and conference services. She also held an assistant professor appointment in the College of Education. Bell also worked at the University Memorial Union at University of Colorado–Boulder. In addition to her role as an administrator\, Bell serves at the chair of the Assessment\, Evaluation\, and Research Program Team for ACUI\n\n\n\nDenesha Rolling is associate director of events & technical services at the Lowman Student Center at Sam Houston State University\, where she provides strategic leadership for event services\, technical services\, the LSC Office\, and the Kat Klub Bowling Center. She oversees operations\, budgets\, policy development\, and a talented team of professional and student staff dedicated to creating meaningful campus experiences. Before joining Sam Houston State University\, Rolling held leadership roles at Prairie View A&M University in auxiliary services and health services. Alongside her team of program advisors\, she advises the Student Center Programs Council (SCPC) and oversees Campus Tickets\, Paper & Clay\, and Tech Rec. Since 2024\, Jamie has successfully secured sponsorships and strategic partnerships that have helped bridge funding gaps for student programs and large-scale campus events. Through relationship building\, creative partnership development\, and a focus on mutual value\, she has leveraged sponsorships to expand programming opportunities and enhance the student experience. We will share examples of how corporate partnerships can be leveraged to remove barriers\, amplify voices\, and enhance the student experience beyond financial impact. \n\n\n\nUnderstand how to fill your budgetary gaps through external revenue sources and large corporate sponsorships. Participants will leave with practical tools and frameworks for identifying and securing external funding. She received her bachelor’s degree from Grove City College\, master’s degree from West Virginia University\, and Ph.D. from Emory University—all in English. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShelia Higgs Burkhalter\n\n\nShelia Higgs Burkhalter “Shiggs” is Vice President for Student Affairs at Winthrop University\, where she serves on the President’s Cabinet and provides executive leadership for a comprehensive student affairs portfolio. With 33 years in higher education\, including 16 years in executive leadership\, she has served public and private institutions with a career focused on student success\, organizational transformation\, leadership development\, and creating environments where students and communities thrive. \n\n\n\nA 2023 NASPA Pillar of the Profession\, Shelia has contributed extensively to NASPA throughout her career\, particularly in areas focused on career pipelines and advancement\, women in leadership\, first-generation populations\, and diverse communities. James\n\n\nErika H. James became the dean of the Wharton School on July 1\, 2020. Trained as an organizational psychologist\, Dean James is a leading expert on crisis leadership\, workplace diversity\, and management strategy. \n\n\n\nPrior to her appointment at Wharton\, Dean James was the John H. Harland Dean at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School from 2014 to 2020. \n\n\n\nAn award-winning educator\, accomplished consultant\, and innovative researcher\, she has paved the way for women in leadership both in education and corporate America.
