Prior to AASHE\, Meghan worked as sustainability specialist at NELSON\, where she provided sustainability expertise and consulting services to various clients. She also spent over five years working at the U.S. Green Building Council\, where\, as manager of community\, she developed and managed a local chapter network for building industry professionals and helped create the Emerging Green Builders program that integrates students and young professionals into the green building movement. Meghan also worked as environmental educator for the University at Buffalo Green Office\, organizing campus and community education focused on energy conservation\, green building\, and sustainable living. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social sciences\, with concentrations in environmental studies and health and human services\, from the University at Buffalo\, a master’s degree in organization management and development from Fielding Graduate Institute\, and a certificate in massage therapy from the Potomac Massage Training Institute. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Thought Leadership\n\n\n\nThought leadership events bring in experts from outside of higher education to share information on industry best practices\, trends\, or research that assists college union and student activities professionals to do their work on campus.

DESCRIPTION:In order to make important decisions thoughtfully and carefully\, it is important to enhance your critical thinking and analysis skills so that you are taking intentional\, well-informed actions. These skills are important for making decisions and justifying those decisions with strong rationales\, no matter what audience you are addressing. This program is intended to help participants learn more about identifying\, gathering\, and synthesizing data to support your critical thinking.   \n\n\n\nRegister Now\n\n\n\nAbout the Presenters\n\n\n\n\nKristen Ernst currently serves as the executive director of the student center at Rice University\, which is comprised of three main functional areas: facilities and events\, student-run businesses\, and student activities. Within her role she also supports student leadership development\, large-scale campus programming such as Moody Fest\, and overall departmental assessment and reporting. Kristen has a master’s of education in higher education administration from the University of Houston and also has bachelor’s in both English and film studies from Boston College. She has been an active volunteer with ACUI for over 10 years and has been a member of ACUI’s Assessment\, Evaluation\, and Research Program Team since 2020.  \n\n\n\n Christopher Howard is currently the chief audio engineer and technology specialist for the Stony Brook Music Department\, where he manages recording\, live streaming\, live sound\, and classroom technology. Chris worked in student centers operations from 2022–26\, most recently as the assistant director of operations and events for the Campus Life Centers at Stony Brook University. Bowser\n\n\nRachel A. Bowser assumed the position of vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college and professor of English on July 1\, 2022. As vice president\, she oversees the academic program\, the faculty\, and academic support services. Most recently\, she was associate provost for strategic initiatives and professor of English at Georgia Gwinnett College. She received her bachelor’s degree from Grove City College\, master’s degree from West Virginia University\, and Ph.D. from Emory University—all in English. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSheila Higgs\n\n\nSheila Higgs is a two-time bestselling author\, accomplished speaker\, facilitator\, and a certified Executive & Leadership Transitions Coach with 30 years of experience in the higher education sector. She specializes in helping aspiring executives and leaders to successfully transition to their next level of leadership. \n\n\n\nSheila believes in people\, values\, and leading with heart. She incorporates her knowledge of leadership\, people\, communication\, and energy to create a transformational experience for her clients. 100% of her Leader on the Rise clients have successfully transitioned to next level leadership roles. \n\n\n\nSheila holds an MBA from the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas–Fayetteville\, a Master of Education in student affairs administration from Indiana University–Bloomington\, and a Bachelor of Science in mass communication and political science. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nErika H. James\n\n\nErika H. James became the dean of the Wharton School on July 1\, 2020. Trained as an organizational psychologist\, Erika is a leading expert on crisis leadership\, workplace diversity\, and management strategy. Prior to her appointment at Wharton\, Erika was the John H. Harland Dean at Emory University’s Goizueta Business School from 2014 to 2020. \n\n\n\nAn award-winning educator\, accomplished consultant\, and innovative researcher\, she has paved the way for women in leadership both in education and corporate America. Erika has been instrumental in developing groundbreaking executive education programs\, including the Women in Leadership Program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School. \n\n\n\nErika serves on the boards of Morgan Stanley\, The Economic Club of New York\, and Pomona College. She is a sought-after thought leader whose expertise has been quoted by The Wall Street Journal\, MSNBC\, Bloomberg\, The Washington Post\, and numerous other media outlets. Her latest book is “The Prepared Leader: Emerge from Any Crisis More Resilient Than Before” (Wharton School Press)\, which she co-authored with Lynn Perry Wooten\, president of Simmons University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNicole Long\n\n\nNicole Long joined Agnes Scott in April 2023 as the vice president for finance and administration. In this role\, she oversees the college’s finance\, accounting\, facilities\, dining operation\, institutional technology\, and public safety functions. Her career spans 25 years in finance with Fortune 500 companies\, including WestRock\, The Coca-Cola Company\, AT&T\, and General Motors. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA in finance from Florida A&M University and is a proud Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority\, Inc. member. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChicora Martin\n\n\nChicora Martin assumed the position of vice president for student affairs and dean of students on November 1\, 2022. Previously\, Chicora served as vice president of student life and dean of students at Mills College in Oakland\, California.
